Aug 6-8 – Forest Heritage Days 2026

For 35 years, Forest Heritage Days has brought people together to celebrate the working forest heritage of the Moosehead region. This year, we’re doing something a little different — and we think it’s going to be something special.

Instead of bringing demonstrations to you, we’re taking you to the story.

The centerpiece of the 2026 event is a Friday experience unlike anything we’ve offered before. Two groups of 50 participants will depart Greenville at the same time — one by water aboard the Steamship Katahdin, and one overland by bus through active timberlands. Both groups will meet at the historic Lily Bay Storehouse for lunch and a program featuring people who help manage this landscape today.

Representatives from the Appalachian Mountain Club and Weyerhaeuser, two of the major landowners and land managers in the Moosehead region, will be part of the program. It will be a rare opportunity to see how history, land, work, conservation, and recreation all come together in one place.

The full schedule runs Thursday through Saturday:

Thursday, August 6
AMC presentation at the Center for Moosehead History, 4:00 pm
Steamship Katahdin Happy Hour Cruise, 5:30 pm

Friday, August 7
“By Water and by Land” signature experience
Limited to 100 participants
Tickets: $60 adults / $25 under 18
Available at Forest Heritage Cruise | Katahdin Cruises & Moosehead Marine Museum

Saturday, August 8
Lumbermen’s Breakfast at the American Legion Post, 7:00–10:00 am
Colby College Woodsmen demonstration, 11:00 am–1:00 pm
Masonic Lodge chicken barbecue

This is an event for longtime locals, summer residents, and visitors who want to better understand the Moosehead region. Come for a day or come for all three. Either way, you’ll leave with a deeper sense of the forest, the lake, the people, and the history that continue to shape this place.
