Mt. Kineo has held deep significance for Native peoples for more than 11,000 years, its volcanic rhyolite drawing travelers from across the Northeast. Archaeologist and Greenville native Dr. Nathan Hamilton traces that long Indigenous presence — who came here, how they moved through this landscape, and why Kineo became sacred ground. He also brings the story into the 20th century through the writings of Henry Perley, whose legends of Kineo link ancient tradition to living memory. This presentation is part of our History by the Lake series and offered in collaboration with the Thoreau-Wabanaki Trail Festival.
