This summer, we invite you to gather with us at the Center for Moosehead History in downtown Greenville for a season of storytelling, reflection, and discovery. Our “History by the Lake” speaking series brings together authors, historians, and community members to explore the stories that have shaped the Moosehead Lake region—and those that reach beyond it while still maintaining a local thread.
Presentations will be held throughout the summer in our newly refurbished and air-conditioned auditorium. While many sessions will take place on Thursdays at 4:00 pm, we’ll also be welcoming guests on select Fridays and Saturdays. Topics vary widely, from the transformation of Blair Hill and the Highlands, to the enduring impact of the B-52 crash on Elephant Mountain, to an Arctic expedition through Akshayuk Pass, and the dramatic story of the last great log drive. Some talks will reach beyond Moosehead, offering broader Maine perspectives such as prominent figures in the Civil War—always with a thoughtful connection back to this region’s legacy and people.
As each date is confirmed, we’ll share updates here and on Facebook. Whether you’re a local resident or just visiting for the summer, we hope you’ll join us to listen, learn, and connect.
Come for the history. Stay for the stories.
