Moosehead Historical Society Unveils New Logo

A clearer public identity rooted in Moosehead history

At our Annual Meeting on June 25, the Moosehead Historical Society publicly unveiled its new logo for the first time.

The logo features Mount Kineo, Moosehead Lake, the hotel built at Kineo in the 1880s, and a steamboat — images that immediately place the Society here at Moosehead. It also includes the words “Preserving Moosehead’s History Since 1962,” which says plainly what the Society was created to do.

The new logo is not a break from the past. It is a way to carry the Society’s work forward with a clearer public identity as we continue to grow.

Over the past few years, the Society has become more active and visible. We have expanded programs, welcomed school groups, strengthened collections work, improved the Center for Moosehead History, launched new publications, and begun planning for the new Lumbermen’s Museum at the Junction Campus. As that work continues, it is important that people can quickly recognize who we are and what we stand for.

The new logo gives us a consistent way to represent the Society on our website, newsletters, signs, exhibits, presentations, printed materials, and other public uses. Along with the full logo, we now also have simpler versions — including a small seal, an MHS mark, and a wordmark — that can be used when the full logo would be too detailed.

We are also looking at future uses such as shirts, hats, and other logo items. We are not quite ready to announce those details yet, but we know many members and friends may be interested, and we will share more information when the time comes.

Most important, the new logo reflects the place we serve. Mount Kineo, the lake, the old hotel, and the steamboat are not just attractive images. They represent the landscape, transportation, tourism, and community identity that have shaped the Moosehead region for generations.

The Moosehead Historical Society was founded in 1962 to preserve and share the history of Moosehead Lake and the surrounding region. That mission has not changed. This new logo simply gives us a clearer way to carry that mission forward.

That version will work well for both the website and the Dispatch. It reads like an official Society article, but it is still plain and not corporate.

The simplified seal gives the Society a smaller, flexible version of the new logo for uses where the full design would be too detailed, such as badges, labels, apparel, or small printed materials.

The new logo system includes the full Moosehead Historical Society logo, simplified marks for smaller uses, a color palette, and examples of how the design may appear on future signs, publications, online materials, shirts, hats, and other Society items.
