The Moosehead Historical Society invites you to join us for the 34th annual Forest Heritage Days, a two-day celebration of Maine’s deep-rooted forestry traditions, community spirit, and natural heritage. Held Friday, August 8 and Saturday, August 9, this beloved event brings locals and visitors together to honor the people and industries that shaped the North Woods.

Festivities will be centered at the Lumbermen’s Museum (444 Pritham Avenue) and Weyerhaeuser’s Timber Office (441 Pritham Avenue), with additional activities throughout town.

Friday, August 8 Highlights

Timber Harvest Bus Tour (11:00 AM)
Presented by Weyerhaeuser, this guided excursion offers a behind-the-scenes look at an active timber harvest site. The tour includes a brief orientation, bus transportation, and lunch.
Cost: $20 per person | Kids under 16: Free

Colby Woodsmen Logging Demonstration (3:00 PM)
Experience the thrill of traditional lumberjack skills—including chopping, sawing, and log rolling—performed by Colby College’s acclaimed student team.
Free and open to all; donations welcomed.

Masonic Bean Hole Supper (5:00–7:00 PM)
Hosted at the Columbia Doric Lodge, this hearty Woodsman’s Dinner features pit-cooked beans, hot dogs, and biscuits.
Suggested donation: $15 | Location: Pritham Avenue, Greenville Junction

The Last Log Drive on Moosehead Lake Presentation (7:00 PM)
Held in the air-conditioned auditorium of the Center for Moosehead History, this special program commemorates the 50th anniversary of the final log drive. Speaker Rocky Rockwell, who participated in that historic event, shares personal stories of river driving and forestry tradition.
Free and open to all; donations welcomed.

Saturday, August 9 Highlights (10:00 AM–3:00 PM)

  • Free Tours of the Eveleth-Crafts-Sheridan Historical House
  • Log Carpentry Demonstrations by AMC Trail Department
  • Tree-Themed Children’s Activities by AMC Education Team
  • Historical Storytelling & Family Programming
  • Community Organization Booths

  • 11:00 AM – Stories from the Timberlands with retired forester Clarence Begin
  • 1:30 PM – David Stone Libbey: Penobscot Lumberman, River Driver, Civil War Soldier and Writer with author Tommy Carbone

Weyerhaeuser’s Timber Office Activities:

  • 125th Anniversary Celebration
  • Open House with Historic Displays
  • Lunch (11:00 AM–1:00 PM) from the Greenville Fire Department Auxiliary Food Truck
  • Free Desserts served inside

Bonus Event:

  • Greenville Crafts Fair, Saturday 9:00 AM–3:00 PM at Bartley Event Center, just ½ mile from Forest Heritage Days venues.
